Great Grey Owl Studio Portrait
A great grey owl perched on a tree stump, photographed in low-key lighting, with the background in shadow.
I was fortunate to get to photograph this fantastic bird in a studio, using artificial lighting, for the perfect exposure. Working with the bird, and his attention span for the experience, I waited for him to offer the perfect pose, and took this photo. It’s a dream photo for me, as great grey owls are my favourite birds. Their muted colours, vast proportions, and precision adaptations to their environment all add up to a spectacular animal to encounter.
This is a photo that works well in print, particularly medium to large sizes, due to all the detail in the face and feathers.
