Bison Side-On - On Black

A large North American Bison bull stands side-on, and side-lit in this intimate black and white portrait. I love how the light folds around the form of the subject, highlighting the textures, fur, and muscle of this iconic species. It's almost a biological study or anatomical portrait, such is the detail brought out by the highlights. This is everything I want in a photo, and I'm very proud of it.
This photo is from a series of bison portraits, which I photographed in 2024, all in black and white, and all in the 16:9 aspect-ratio (AKA 'Widescreen'), reflecting the cinematic feel of the Old West, and its deep association for me, with this iconic species.
This individual is from one of several North American Bison herds living in the UK. I would love to see this emblematic species in it's truly wild home teritory one day, and very much intend to do so as soon as I'm able.
There's some fantastic detail in this image, and it looks even better large. I recommend having it framed in a traditional wooden frame, if that option is available to you, to really create an attractive centrepiece.
